Today, people all over the country are choosing sides. Most will do it quietly, only sharing their vote with close friends or family. Some will be as loud as they can be in order to try and sway others. I'm just here in my corner of the world running errands. I needed groceries. So I went to the store.
Now I'm still learning how to do things with a baby in my arms, having missed a month of it while at the hospital. I have learned some things that I will likely do differently with the next one, but for this guy, I'm into some of my choices too deeply to be able to look back, so I adapt. One of those choices, which impacts my life more than I realized it would, was the choice of car seat. I'm still not sure I regret skipping the infant carrier, but those hammocks for the cart are harder to come by than I realized and always carrying the baby makes shopping quite a chore!
All that to say, today I went to the store for a couple of things and was carrying a sleeping baby. I'm thankful that in the super long checkout lines the lady in front of me didn't ask who I voted for before she offered to unload my groceries onto the belt. I'm thankful that she didn't wait for me to ask who she voted for before handing my things to the cashier so I could be checked out before her. I'm beyond thankful that the guy gathering carts on the lot in the rain didn't stop to talk about the merits of the candidates before unloading my bags into the van for me so I could get the baby into his seat.
I'm so thankful that a lot of people are still just human. And that they realize that tomorrow we will all still be us, so being helpful and kind is the way to go.
